EDF develops new lines, reinforces safety and improves the performance of electricity networks. The Group proposes innovative solutions, with a particular emphasis on effectively integrating renewable energies into the networks or automating the electricity supply systems. The EDF group also has substantial expertise in reducing commercial and technical losses (customer identification, accounting systems and billing recovery, etc.)
The numerous studies and projects that EDF has conducted in Africa have provided the Group with deep knowledge of the continent's electricity installations.
MASTERPLANS
EDF has created many masterplans for African countries: the Moroccan production-transmission masterplan until 2025 and many distribution masterplans in Morocco and Burkina Faso.
INTERCONNECTIONS
The Group has designed the Bobo-Dioulasso-Ouagadougou interconnection (360 km of overhead lines, 7 substations) in Burkina Faso and has made a feasibility study for the Ghana-Burkina-Mali interconnection.
EDF has also been in charge of the supervision of work conducted on the Information and Coordination Centre for the transmission systems linking the 14 countries of the West African Power Pool (WAPP).
LINES, POSTS, DISPATCHERS
Supervision of lines, posts and of the national dispatcher of Communauté Electrique du Bénin (CEB) have been given to EDF. The national Senegalese dispatcher and the feasibility study for the regional utility load dispatcher for transmission in the Nile Delta have been also realised by EDF.
Networks performance
EDF group has a recognised expertise to improve networks performance. Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire and Congo Republic have already asked EDF for this type of services including sometimes training programmes for their teams.
For example, EDF Group provides support and assistance to the Société des Energies de Côte d'Ivoire, the CI-Energies, to optimise its operational and technical choices, and services related to the network connection code.

Training
In Gabon, EDF has signed a three years contract with Société d’Energie et d’Eau du Gabon (SEEG) for the realisation of distribution training programmes.
In South Africa, EDF Group has signed a technical partnership with the local electricity company Eskom. Financed by AFD-French Development Agency, this project aims to share experience and expertise on distribution and transmission networks subjects.
In Mozambique, EDF is present for about 20 years at local electricity company EDM side for the realisation and improvement of its infrastructures allowing supply of electricity to the provinces of Manica and Sofala.
